Club members voted overwhelmingly for Jazmin Sawyers as their Memorable Moment at the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2023 in Istanbul. Jaz - who may have deserved a nomination for qualifying automatically for the final at her first attempt - sensationally won the long jump against some world class athletes with a world-leading 7.00 metre jump, a British indoor record. Her delight at this achievement won the hearts of many spectators and viewers.
Our two other gold medalist had also been shortlisted. Laura Muir won her 5th gold medal at European Indoors with her victory in the 1500m in a time of 4:03.40. Keely Hodgkinson dominated every round of the 800m, defending her title, the first to win in sub-2 minutes for some 20 years.
The BASC committee chose Hannah Nuttall as their breakthrough athlete at the championships. Hannah (25), progressed to the final of the 3000m, finishing 5th with a personal best time.
