Throughout the year, BASC also makes a number of Rising Star Awards to athletes who are not on funding and who have made a special performance at major championships. Special performances include personal bests or qualifying for the final at that championship. Awards are made by the BASC Committee, and winners also receive a cheque for £250
Callum Hawkins wins a BASC Rising Star award for his ninth place finish in the Rio Olympics men's marathon. He was leading at the halfway point in only his third race over the distance but could not stay with the leaders as they kicked for home. He completed the course in a time of 2:11.52.
Callum was presented with his award and cheque by BASC committee members Marc Hope.
