Throughout the year, BASC also makes a number of Rising Star Awards to athletes who are not on funding and who have made a special performance at major championships. Special performances include personal bests or qualifying for the final at that championship. Awards are made by the BASC Committee, and winners also receive a cheque for £250
Emily Diamond had been below her best in the individual 400m at the Rio Olympics due to illness, but her performance in the bronze-medal-winning 4x400m relay squad earned her a Rising Star Award. Emily stormed past two other athletes, in a split of 51.15s, to put Christine Ohuruogu into third place on the final leg.
Emily received her award from BASC vice-chairman John Standerline.
