Throughout the year, BASC also makes a number of Rising Star Awards to athletes who are not on funding and who have made a special performance at major championships. Special performances include personal bests or qualifying for the final at that championship. Awards are made by the BASC Committee, and winners also receive a cheque for £250
Jarryd Dunn was awarded the BASC Rising Star Award for his winning performance in the European Team Championships 400m running a personal best 45.09s.
23-year-old Jarryd also represented GB&NI in the individual 400m at the Beijing World Championships securing his place in the most competitive race of the British Championships. The Rising Star Award is given for a significant performance in a major international event or championship by an unfunded up-and-coming athlete.
