BASC members voted Dan Pembroke's demolition of the men’s F13 javelin world record to successfully defend his Paralympic title as their memorable moment from the Games. The 33-year-old threw a huge 74.49m, having already broken his existing record after reaching 71.15m on his third attempt. His performance and reaction after the winning throw and the crowd support made it a memorable moment.
In addition to Dan, the following performances were also shortlisted for the award:
Hannah Cockroft claimed her second gold of the Paris Games in winning the T34 800m on the final night. While not totally unexpected it was her 9th gold and continues her unbeaten record at the Paralympics.
Sammi Kinghorn - Gold T53 100m. While a medal was the likely outcome, especially with four silver medals in other events, perhaps gold in a new Paralympic record was a surprise and memorable, as she had beaten Swiss great Catherine Debrunner.
Ben Sandilands powered to men’s 1500m T20 gold in world record time on Paralympic debut.Sandilands, who was crowned world champion in the French capital last year, surged clear of the field with a lap to go. The 21-year-old crossed the line for victory in a brilliant 3:45.40, slicing a tenth of a second off the previous world best and taking 1.6 seconds off his personal best. The rest were in the rear view as Sandilands won by a margin of more than four seconds. The crowd support and the manner and margin of his victory made it a memorable moment.
