On her return from a career-threatening injury, Molly Caudery's gold medal winning performance was voted by BASC members as their most memorable moment at the World Athletics Indoor Championships. It was a welcome return after disappointment at the last two outdoor global championships - no-heighting in the Olympics and then injuring herself in the warm-up at last year's world championships. With seven vaulters exiting the pole vault competitaion at 4.80m, only Molly and Tina Sutej were left in the running for gold. Molly cleared 4.85m on her second attempt to claim her second world indoor title.
The supporters club committee chose Molly Palmer as their Breakthrough Performance of the championships. The 22 year old on her senior international championship debut achieved 10th place in the long jump.
Other athletes shortlisted for the club's Memorable Moment Award were our other gold medalists along with Scott Lincoln in the shot put.
Josh Kerr was determined to win back his world 3000m title, and he did not disappoint. At the bell, Kerr surged decisively to the front, holding off the competition to cross the line in a season’s best 7:35.56 and take gold.
In the final session of the championships we celebrated golden hour with three gold medals including Molly Caudery. First Georgia Hunter Bell watched Haylom disappearing into the distance in the 1500m, but led the pack to haul her in. Georgia won in a world-leading 3:58.53. Finally Keely Hodgkinson, following her stunning world indoor 800m record, led from gun to tape pulling away on the 3rd lap to win the 800m by over 10 metres from Werro in a championship record of 1:55.30.
Scott Lincoln was our stand-out field athlete just missing out on a medal with a season's best 21.13m put demonstrating the wisdom of his move to Australia for coaching.
