When Keely Hodgkinson won that elusive global gold medal with a dominant performance in the 800m (1:56.82), at the Paris Olympic Games, BASC members were ecstatic - and voted this their most memorable athletics moment from THE major championships of 2024.
After a stunning 10 medal-winning performances, including a full-house in the relays, the shortlist compromising our five individual medalists was put to members to select their most memorable.
In addition to Keely, the following performances were shortlisted. Matt Hudson-Smith (43.44) shaved several tenths off his own European record as he was pipped on the line of the 400m, having to settle for silver. Josh Kerr broke the British record (3:27.79), and was also agonisingly close to gold as he took silver in the 1500m. Georgia Bell also broke the British record (3:52.61) in the women's event on her way to bronze. Katarina Johnson-Thompson (6844pts) finally got on the Olympic podium in the heptathlon, narrowly beaten by possibly the greatest Olympic heptathlete, to take silver with memorable performances particularly in the high jump, shot put, javelin and 800m.
