The BASC Para Athlete of the Year, chosen by the BASC Committee is Melanie Woods.
There have been few Para Athletics events in 2026 so the nominees were those that performed well at the Commonwealth Games. Melanie won Gold in the T54 400m and 1500m races (winning the 1500 twice – the initial race and the re-run after a collision behind her in the first race.) Melanie is the first home athlete to win double Commonwealth Gold since Alan Wells in 1982, and her 1500m time was a Commonwealth Games record.
Melanie was presented with the BASC Susanna Ingram Award (named after a former committee member who died from cerebral palsy) by chairman-elect Marc Hope at a para-athletics event in Scotland.
