Azu and Fitzgerald win BASC meet awards

March 26, 2025

There were some great British performances at the European Indoor Championships. BASC members voted Jeremiah Azu as their memorable moment. He stormed to a 60m gold - topping the podium for the first time at a major championships. In addition to this, the BASC Committee selected Innes Fitzgerald as the breakthrough athlete of the championships after her performance in the 3000m. Innes is still only 18 years old and had a couple of great runs, finishing 5th in her heat, and then running really strongly in the final finishing 8th. She gave two very mature interviews showing herself as someone learning to run on the track.

Our 3000m silver medallists were also shortlisted for the memorable moment - George Mills who was only outrun by the super-human Jakob Ingebrigtsen, and Melissa Courtney-Bryant who was pipped by the inspired Sarah Healey. Also shortlisted were our bronze medallists - Andrew Robertson who was called up at the last minute but ran out of his skin in the 60m, and Revee Walcott Nolan in the 1500m - both winning their first international individual medals.
